Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines the football scholarship of his family as well as service in the local community. One of the first things he did is to help the Selmon family. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children in a Eufala farm. He was also one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma in football. All three brothers were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey was a starter for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the top offensive lineman in nation by the Outland and Lombardi Awards. The three years he was an offensive lineman, Oklahoma finished 32-1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. He received a third scholarship in 1975. He was also selected as a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon received his bachelor's diploma in education. Fourth-year service in college Lee Roy devoted ten hours every week for volunteer activities. In Tampa the Buccaneers, he was a player for the Buccaneers for nine seasons before becoming an all-pro. Also, he began a career in business. In 1988, he was an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also a part of the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as one of the 10 of America's most outstanding young men. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing 256 pounds in college as player, commanded his team throughout 1975. In 1993, he was appointed the assistant director of Athletics at the University of South Florida. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993 by the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, as well as The Pro Football Hall of Fame of 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded their Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma gave it to them.
